Class of 1999

A million feelings, A thousand thoughts, A hundred memories.

That’s how we could sum up our days in Kendriya Vidyalaya Kanjikode (KVK) in the 80's-90's. The name ‘KVK’ brings up so many mixed emotions – pride, joy, sadness and much more. KVK - the place where we grew up, where we made our first Best Friend Forever(BFF), where we had our first crush, where we had our first big fight, where we began building our first dreams... KVK, where we first had a taste of failure and success, of friendship and respect, where we learnt about hard work in the classrooms and teamwork in the sports ground... KVK, the institution that made us who we are today!

Among the many memorable things that KV gave us friendship is definitely on top of the list. Somewhere between Camelin boxes, Nataraj pencils, brown paper-wrapped notebooks, Bata shoes, Milton water bottles and free periods, shared lunches, House competitions, tuition classes and the sip-ups from the tea shop outside the school gate, we bonded. From an awkward stage of ‘what girl’, ‘go boy’ to fun movie dates and get-togethers in the 11th std and 12th std... From plotting how to bunk classes, faking illness or forging parent’s signatures on report cards to coming up with advanced methods of sneaking in ‘bits’ into the exam hall every year…. From being ‘out-standing’ students to racking our heads together to get that 1 mark more to pass the unit tests, our brains worked continuously to outwit teachers and competitors, while our hearts worked together to create moments of fun and laughter.

These memories that would last us a lifetime bring such warmth and yet tears us up inside that we are no more with those amazing people who gave us our first memories. Never once among all the laughter, did we think that our lives would take such different paths, that the moments we shared with each other would become just memories... And yet here we are, plenty of grey hair and tons of kilos later, all grown up with our own lovely families, all in different parts of the world, millions of miles away... but just a thought, a memory and a click away...
